India Rejects Erdogan’s Remarks on Kashmir, Lodges Protest

India on Friday strongly rejected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir at the UN, terming them “objectionable” and asserting that the matter is strictly bilateral between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India’s stance on Kashmir remains unchanged: “There is no role for any third party to mediate.” He added that India lodged a strong protest with the Turkish ambassador, stressing that “such unwarranted statements on India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are unacceptable.”

Erdogan, addressing the 80th UNGA session, said Turkey was “pleased” with the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement and urged resolution of the Kashmir issue “on the basis of UN resolutions.” His remarks echoed Ankara’s past support for Pakistan, which India has consistently opposed.

Jaiswal underlined that the real problem lies in Pakistan’s policy of “using cross-border terrorism,” which continues to endanger lives in Jammu and Kashmir.

Separately, Jaiswal noted EAM S. Jaishankar’s meetings with Cyprus’s foreign minister, where India reaffirmed support for a UN-based settlement of the North Cyprus issue, and with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where discussions focused on Indo-Pacific cooperation, trade, and critical minerals.

India’s firm response comes amid deepening Ankara-Islamabad ties, including reports that Turkish drones were deployed by Pakistan in counter-operations against India.
