India Set for South Africa in Super 8

The Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup is almost set, with seven teams already confirmed and the final spot to be decided in the Pakistan–Namibia clash on Wednesday.

A win for Pakistan will send them to Group 2 of the Super 8s. If Namibia win, the USA will advance instead.

Super 8 Groups

Group 1

  • India national cricket team

  • South Africa national cricket team

  • West Indies cricket team

  • Zimbabwe national cricket team

Australia were initially expected to be in this group but were eliminated in the league stage. Zimbabwe qualified in their place.

Group 2

  • New Zealand national cricket team

  • England cricket team

  • Sri Lanka national cricket team

  • Pakistan / USA (to be decided)

Tournament Schedule

The tournament began on February 7, with group matches running until February 20. The Super 8 stage starts on February 21.

  • February 21: New Zealand vs Pakistan/USA

  • February 22: India vs South Africa (Ahmedabad)

  • February 26: India vs Zimbabwe (Chennai)

  • March 1: India vs West Indies (Kolkata)

Each Super 8 group has four teams, with each team playing three matches. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

  • 1st Semi-final: March 4

  • 2nd Semi-final: March 5 at Wankhede Stadium

  • Final: March 8

If Pakistan qualify for the knockouts, their matches will be held in Colombo.

Group Stage Summary

From the initial 20 teams divided into four groups:

  • Group A: India qualified

  • Group B: Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe qualified

  • Group C: England and West Indies advanced

  • Group D: New Zealand and South Africa progressed

Australia, Ireland, Oman, Scotland, Italy, Nepal, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada were eliminated.

India won all three group matches:

  • Beat USA by 29 runs (Suryakumar Yadav scored a fifty)

  • Beat Namibia by 93 runs (Hardik Pandya scored a fifty and took two wickets)

  • Beat Pakistan by 61 runs (Ishan Kishan scored 77, Player of the Match)

The Super 8 stage now promises high-voltage clashes as the race for the semi-finals intensifies.
