India Stands Firmly With Israel: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day official visit to Israel, during which he addressed the Israeli Parliament and strongly condemned the recent attacks carried out by Hamas.

Expressing solidarity with the Israeli people, Modi stated, “We understand your pain. India has endured the scourge of terrorism for decades.”

He reaffirmed that India stands firmly with Israel—both now and in the future—and emphasized that the killing of civilians can never be justified under any circumstances.

“Terrorism,” he asserted, “cannot be defended on any grounds.”

Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Knesset. Upon his arrival, lawmakers welcomed him with a standing ovation, chanting “Modi, Modi!” in a rare display of parliamentary enthusiasm.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his address, described Modi as “like a brother” and said he holds a special place in his heart. Netanyahu praised him as a globally respected leader.

Earlier, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, personally received Modi at the airport, where he was welcomed with the playing of the national anthem.

The two leaders also held a brief private conversation at the airport in Tel Aviv before proceeding to the hotel. Modi was warmly received by members of the Indian diaspora, with cultural performances organized in his honour.

This marks Modi’s second visit to Israel in nine years, his first being in July 2017. The current visit is expected to focus significantly on strategic cooperation, particularly defence collaborations, including discussions on drones and anti-ballistic missile systems.

Meanwhile, the Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post published a special front-page edition to welcome the Indian Prime Minister.

The cover prominently featured Modi’s photograph alongside the Hindi greeting “Namaste” and the Hebrew word “Shalom,” which conveys both a greeting and a message of peace.
