India have taken firm control of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. After dismissing the visitors for just 162 on Day 1, India powered to 448/5 at stumps on Day 2, securing a commanding lead of 286 runs.
The highlight of the day was a remarkable 206-run fifth-wicket stand between wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel (125) and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (104 off 176)*. For Jurel, it was a maiden Test century, while Jadeja continued his fine form with another composed hundred.
Earlier, opener KL Rahul (100 off 197) struck his 11th Test century, his second against the West Indies, before falling to Jomel Warrican. Captain Shubman Gill (50) also contributed, adding 98 runs with Rahul for the third wicket.
India’s position now looks unassailable. With a potential declaration looming on Day 3 or 4, the West Indies—who lasted only 44 overs in their first innings—face a daunting task. Unless the visitors show drastic improvement, the match could well conclude by the third day.
