Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday asserted that India is poised to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030 and emphasised that the nation’s youth and students will play a decisive role in shaping that future.
He was addressing the Janajati Students’ Conference organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
Youth as the Driving Force
Addressing a large gathering of students, Dr. Saha expressed optimism about Tripura’s future, stating that the enthusiastic participation of young people signalled the emergence of a stronger and more progressive state. He underlined that nearly 65 percent of India’s population falls within the 18–35 age bracket, and this demographic strength forms the foundation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for national advancement.
He said the Prime Minister’s guiding mantra — Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas — reflects a commitment to inclusive growth, national security, socio-economic transformation, and infrastructure expansion driven by the aspirations of the youth.
Development of Languages and Kokborok Script
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of nurturing minority and indigenous languages, including local dialects. He said sustained efforts should be undertaken to develop a distinct script for the Kokborok language to ensure its growth and preservation.
Strengthening Student Presence
Dr. Saha called for strengthening the presence of the student organisation across colleges in the state. Reflecting on the political unrest of the 1970s, he remarked that violence had disrupted educational institutions during the communist era, adversely affecting generations of students who were drawn into ideological movements instead of academic pursuits.
Stable Governance and Student Welfare
Highlighting developments since 2014, he said India has witnessed greater stability under the present leadership. He referred to the Prime Minister’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, which engages directly with citizens, and the initiative Pariksha Pe Charcha, aimed at reducing examination-related stress among students.
Dr. Saha also encouraged students to participate in nation-building beyond academics, citing initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and voluntary activities like blood donation drives as avenues that instil civic responsibility and self-fulfilment.
Role of AI and Economic Growth
He observed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers vast learning opportunities and noted that provisions in the Union Budget have supported its expansion. However, he cautioned against overdependence on AI, emphasising the need for human wisdom and critical thinking.
Recalling India’s economic progress, Dr. Saha stated that the country has risen from the 11th position to the fourth-largest economy globally and is on track to secure the third position by 2030. He urged students to strengthen themselves through knowledge while preserving the nation’s cultural heritage and traditions.
The conference was attended by Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, former MP Revati Tripura, ABVP All India General Secretary Kamlesh Singh, State President Prof. Dr. Debraj Panigrahi, Tirtharam Reang, State Secretary Ravi Shankar Halder, Arjun Tripura and other leaders.
