India Yet To Win Test Series In England For 18 Years. Ready To Try Again

Team India, which has not been able to win a Test series in England for 18 years, is ready to try once again.

The team will play a series of 5 Test matches in England.

The first match will start at 3.30 pm according to Indian timing at Leeds Stadium in Headingley from June 20.

Team India will play under the leadership of 25-year-old young captain Shubman Gill.

On the other hand, 34-year-old experienced all-rounder Ben Stokes is leading England. In 1932, India started its international cricket career from Lord's Stadium in England, but the team could win only 3 Test series here in 94 years.

India's Test performance in England in the story...

India began its cricketing journey in 1932 by playing a Test match against England.

Colonel CK Naidu captained India in the match.

However, the team lost the match by 158 runs in a four-day match at Lord's Stadium.

India lost 14 series in 94 years

In 94 years from 1932 to 2025, Team India played 19 Test series in England. India won 3, while 2 were drawn.

The team had to face defeat in 14. India has been able to win only 13% of the Tests against England in English conditions.

Won the first series in 1971

It took 39 years for India to win its first Test series in England. In 1971, under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar, Team India drew the first two matches of the 3-Test series, but won the last match to win the series 1-0. India had to lose 6 series before winning its first series in England.

The last series win was 18 years ago

After 1971, India lost 3 consecutive series in England, then won the 3 Test series 2-0 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev.

After this, India played a 4 match series draw 1-1 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly in 2002, then won the very next series in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid.

Won 4 Tests in 18 years, not even 1 series

After the victory in 2007, India had to lose 2 consecutive series under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. In 2018, the team also lost under the leadership of Virat Kohli, but in 2021, Kohli himself gave a 2-1 lead in the 5-Test series.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the last match of the series was played the next year, but by then Kohli had left the captaincy.

India played the last Test under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, but the team lost and the series was drawn 2-2.

Captain Kohli has won the most tests:

Virat Kohli is on top of the list of captains who have won the most Test matches for India in England with 3 wins.

After him, Kapil Dev won 2 matches. Whereas 4 different captains have won 1 match each. India has won only 9 matches in England, but the team has also drawn 22 Tests here.

Tendulkar is India's top scorer in England

Sachin Tendulkar scored the most runs for India in England. He scored 1575 runs in 17 matches with the help of 4 centuries and 8 fifties.

Among the bowlers, fast bowler Ishant Sharma was on top, who took 51 wickets in just 15 matches. However, Sachin retired 12 years ago, while Ishant did not get a place in the squad.

This time India has sent a very young team to England. Senior players like Ravi Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired.

36-year-old Ravindra Jadeja is the most experienced, he has the most runs (642) in the current squad in England. He has also taken 27 wickets here.

Apart from Jadeja, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant from the current squad have scored 2 centuries each in England. Jasprit Bumrah has the highest number of wickets (31). However, it is difficult for him to play all the matches. He will play only 3 Tests

England's Joe Root, who has scored the most runs against India in Test cricket history, will also be seen playing in this series.

He has scored 2846 runs against Team India by scoring 10 centuries and 11 fifties. Not only this, he also has 19 wickets against India.

English captain Ben Stokes is currently the team's top wicket taker against India with 40 wickets.
