Indian Cricket Team For T20 WC: Rohit-Agarkar Holds Press Conference

The Indian team has already been announced for this year's T20 World Cup 2024. Now Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has held a press conference in Mumbai regarding this matter.

During this time, Chief Selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ajit Agarkar was also with him.

After removing Rohit Sharma from the captaincy in IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise has handed over the command to Hardik Pandya.

A question was asked regarding this in the press conference. On this Rohit said that this is nothing new for me. I have played under many captains before also.

Rohit said, 'I was the captain. Then I was no longer the captain and now I am the captain. It is part of life. Everything will not go your way. It has been a wonderful experience. Even earlier in my life I was not a captain and had played under different captains. It has nothing to do with it. I have always tried to do what is required as a player and I have tried to do that in the last one month".

Ajit Agarkar said, 'Rohit has been a great captain. There is no doubt that during the six months between the 50-over World Cup and this (T20) World Cup, we had to take some decisions. I know Hardik has led in some series. But Rohit has been fantastic".

In the press conference, KL Rahul was asked why he did not get a place in the World Cup team. On this Agarkar said, 'KL is a great player. We are considering players who bat in the middle order. KL bats in the top order. While Rishabh Pant plays at number 5. Sanju Samson also has the ability to play down'.

Regarding all-rounder Shivam Dubey, Rohit said, 'Our top order is performing well, it is not bad. We want a player to play that role in the middle overs and play freely. We have selected Dubey on the basis of his performance in IPL. We talked about it and made selections, but he is not guaranteed in the playing-11'.

Rinku Singh, who made a splash in IPL, has been kept in traveling reserve. He has not got a place in the 15-member team. On this Rohit said, 'I think it is not his (Rinku) fault. He is going to travel with us now. I know it's a little difficult for him. I think he missed out because of team balance. We wanted to introduce an extra spinner. I wanted 4 spinners in the team. I will not tell the reason here, I will tell you in the USA.'

Virat Kohli has always been trolled for his strike rate during IPL. When asked about this, Agarkar said, 'Experience matters a lot. There was never any discussion regarding the strike rate of Virat Kohli. There is no point in thinking too much.'

On the other hand, regarding the selection of all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the team, Agarkar said, 'As long as he is fit and available. We always wanted Hardik Pandya in the team, there was never any doubt about it.'
