Indo-Bangla Border Situation Monitor: IG-BSF Tripura Frontier In MHA's High-level Committee

In view of the situation in Bangladesh, the Modi government had already tightened security on all its borders with the neighboring country and now a high-level committee has also been formed to monitor the situation on the border.

The committee formed to monitor the current situation on the India-Bangladesh border (IBB) will maintain contact with the counterpart officials of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Indian citizens and people of minority communities living in Bangladesh.

Let us tell you that Additional Director General (ADG) Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command will be the chairman of this committee.

Other members of the committee include Inspector General (IG) BSF Frontier Headquarters South Bengal, Inspector General (IG) BSF Frontier Headquarters Tripura, Member (Planning and Development) Indian Land Ports Authority (LPAI) and Secretary LPAI.

Let us tell you that this committee has been formed at a time when a large number of people are reaching the India-Bangladesh border. These people include the people of Bangladesh who are troubled by the situation there, as well as Indian citizens living there. In such a situation, the task has become quite challenging for the BSF.

Let us also tell you that recently Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh had said that all Indian passport holders would be allowed to return from crisis-hit Bangladesh through the designated entry point in the state, while others would not be allowed to enter. He had said that the Assam Police and the Border Security Force would do everything possible to prevent any attempt by non-Indians to enter the country illegally. He had said, "There are clear instructions from our side that we will not allow anyone to enter Assam illegally.''

He had said that instructions have been issued that all Indian passport holders in Bangladesh would be allowed to return. "However, no one else will be allowed to enter and if anyone tries to enter (illegally) we will take action as per the law," he said.

Let us also tell you that the Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled the attempt of a group of Bangladeshi citizens to enter the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya to collect stones. BSF officials said that on Wednesday afternoon, a group of Bangladeshi citizens in about five-six boats crossed the international border along the river in Ranikor area of the district to collect stones.

The BSF first verbally asked the Bangladeshi citizens to retreat, but they did not listen to them, after which the BSF had to open fire. He told that the intention of the intruders was to collect stones in their boat and as soon as they crossed the international border, the BSF jawans had to open fire, after which they fled from there. In fact, in view of the unstable political situation in the neighboring country, the BSF is on 'high alert' in Meghalaya and other states of the Northeast region. The state government has imposed night curfew from 6 pm to 6 am so that the BSF can control the entire international border and ensure that no illegal activity takes place at night
