Infiltration Is a Serious Problem: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that the infiltration of Rohingyas in India has increased a lot. 

This has created a serious problem. He said that Rohingyas are continuously entering India through the Bangladesh border. They are settling in many states.

Assam is protecting only a part of the India-Bangladesh border, but a large area is still unsafe. The CM said that there is a need for strict monitoring on the border with Bangladesh, especially on the Bengal border. The central government should pay attention to this. 

The Bengal border is a weak link for the security of the country.

He alleged that the Bengal and Jharkhand governments are being lenient towards these infiltrators. Both the states have not taken any effective steps to stop this. 

Sarma said that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a statement that the state will give shelter to people coming from Bangladesh.

This statement has raised the question as to how committed she is to resolve the issue of infiltration. He said that the issue of infiltration is real and serious. 

When Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee says that I am going to open the borders, provide relief and rehabilitation, it indicates that the situation is very serious. Sarma said that when the census will take place, shocking news will come on the demography of the states of India
