IOC Halts Bidding Process For 2036 Olympics. India Submitted Its Bid 8 Months Ago

The International Olympic Council (IOC) has halted the bidding process for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. This has put a decision on India's hosting of the games on hold.
IOC President Christie Coventry said on Thursday, June 26 - 'All members of the Executive Board have decided to stop this process and review it. We will form a working group to reconsider it.' 41-year-old Christie took the first meeting of the Executive Board in Lausanne.
On October 1 last year, the Indian government had expressed its desire to host the games through a letter of intent to the IOC. A decision on this was expected by next year.
The Olympic hosts till 2032 have been decided. The hosting of 2032 has been given to Brisbane city of Australia. While the 2028 Olympics are to be held in Los Angeles.
India has hosted 3 multi-sports games so far. The country last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Before this, the Asian Games of 1982 and 1951 were also held in India.
Christy Coventry is the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She was elected IOC President on June 23, 2025. She is the first woman and the first African to reach this position. She replaced Thomas Bach. Her term is 8 years.
