Iran Preparing For Israeli Retaliation. Know The Strength of Iran

Iran attacked Israel with ballistic missiles and drones in the early hours of 14 April. The attacks were mainly carried out in Jerusalem, the Negev desert and the Dead Sea in the south, the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in the north, as well as the occupied West Bank. Israel's Kan TV news reported that Iran launched about 400-500 missiles and drones, of which about 100 were intercepted before reaching Israel.

There has been tension between Iran and Israel (Iran Israel News) for a long time, but earlier this month Israel carried out an airstrike on Iranian targets in the Syrian capital Damascus. In which 7 top military commanders of Iran were killed. After this Iran had announced revenge. Started with sporadic attacks, but now have launched direct attacks.

Iran is the 14th largest military power in the world (Iran Military Power 2024) and Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the supreme commander of the army. He takes all important decisions related to the three armies. According to a report by the International Institute for Strategic Affairs, Iran is currently the largest military power in the Middle East. There are 580,000 soldiers in its army, while around 2 lakh are reserve forces. Which is a complete trend.

Iran also has a Quds Force in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, which is very highly trained and is considered quite dangerous. The soldiers of this unit are trained in everything from using sophisticated weapons to guerrilla warfare and have been supporting extremist groups of different countries throughout the Middle East, which has been named 'Axis of Resistance'. These groups include Hezbollah of Lebanon, Houthi of Yemen, extremists of Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Gaza.

Talking about Iran's weapons, the most dangerous weapons it has are ballistic missiles. According to the office of the US director of national intelligence, ballistic missiles are a key part of Tehran's arsenal. Iran is the country in the entire Middle East which has the most ballistic missiles. According to the New York Times, this is also the reason for the concern of many western countries including America and Israel.

Amidst tension with Israel, this week Iran's official newspaper ISNA gave information about 9 such missiles which have direct access to Israel. The first of these missiles is 'Sejil' which can go up to 2500 kilometers at a speed of 17,000 km per hour. Similarly, the range of Kheibar is 2000 kilometers and the range of Haj Qasem is 1400 kilometers.

According to the Arms Control Association, Iran also has dozens of short and medium range ballistic missiles. Like 'Shahab-1', which has a range of 300 kilometers, Zolfaghar, which can go up to 700 kilometers, 'Shahab-3', which has a range of up to 1000 kilometers. Iran can use these missiles on short range targets.

In June last year, Iran presented its first indigenous hypersonic ballistic missile to the country.

Hypersonic missiles travel 5 times faster than the speed of sound, so intercepting or shooting them down is a difficult task. Iran has cruise missiles like KH-55, which are equipped with nuclear capability and can carry nuclear weapons up to 3000 kilometers.

Many western countries including America fear that Iran has also developed nuclear weapons, although it neither admitted nor denied openly. This apprehension of America is also strengthened because Iran has developed cruise missiles carrying nuclear weapons.

In recent years, Iran has done a lot of work on drone development and is the largest producer of drones in the entire Middle East. In August last year, it had said that it has developed a drone named Mohajer-10 which can travel up to 2000 kilometers and can also carry a weight of 300 kg.

According to a report in the New York Times, Iran has been working hard on developing different types of weapons for the last decade. Its emphasis was mainly on three things – ballistic missile, cruise missile and antiship missile. Most of Iran's weapons facilities are underground, so western countries, especially America or Israel, could not destroy them through air strikes.

Western countries imposed very strict sanctions on Iran, due to which it did not get much success in developing tanks and fighter jets etc. In the 80s, when its war with Iraq was going on, many countries wanted to sell arms to Iran. After the end of the war, when Ayatollah Khamenei became the Supreme Leader of Iran in 1989, he insisted on developing domestic weapons.

Currently, Iran develops a large part of its weapons, from missiles to drones, itself. However, North Korea has been accusing countries like China and Russia of secretly supplying weapons to Iran ( Where did Iran get its weapons ). According to the Arms Control Association, most of Iran's missile program is based on North Korean and Russian designs and China is also supporting it.

Even though Iran has the largest army in the entire Middle East and has developed many weapons, its soldiers are not as trained as compared to America, Israel and many European countries. The biggest weakness of the Iranian army is their air force. Iran's Air Force is no match for Israel. Most of Iran's aircraft are from 1941 to 1979.

Many planes don't even run properly anymore because their spare parts are not available. Iran last purchased some aircraft from Russia in the 1990s, but they too are not fully operational. Similarly, Iran's tanks, armored vehicles etc. have also become very old. Former Air Vice Marshal OP Tiwari tells hindi.news18.com that technology plays a very important role in modern warfare and Israel is far ahead of Iran in this matter. Iran may have numbers, but it is far behind Israel on the technology and intelligence front.
