Iran To Attack Israel By Next 48 Hours: Western Intelligence

Iran has planned to attack Israel to avenge the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. This plan has been approved by Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Western intelligence sources have reported that Iran has planned to attack Israel on a festival called Tisha Bav. The festival will start on August 12 and will continue till August 13. This is not the first time that Iran will attack Israel. Earlier also Iran had attacked Israel with missiles on 13 April 2024, but most of them were destroyed on the way.

Western intelligence sources told Sky News Arabia that Iran is planning to attack Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

The attack would reportedly be coordinated with Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist group based in Lebanon. On Tisha B'Av, Jews mourn the destruction of the First and Second Temples. During the annual event, fasting, mourning and self-sacrifice are practiced.

Three sources told the New York Times that Iran plans to respond to Haniya's killing. Thist sentiment was reiterated on X by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who wrote "After this bitter, tragic incident that has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, it is our duty to take revenge." The report indicated that targeting Israel on a holy day of mourning has an emotional and psychological impact. The report claimed that Jewish Israelis may feel particularly vulnerable on this day.

Enemy states and terror groups have focused their attacks on Jewish holidays in the past, as was the case on October 7, which fell on Simchat Torah and Shabbat, and the Yom Kippur War in 1973. There is reportedly also a symbolic reason for attacking on this date, reviving historical traumas and replaying images of destruction. Finally, Iran reportedly hopes that attacking on this day will instill fear in Jews. Israeli security agencies may be busy with their own religious rituals or settling disagreements. They may not be prepared for a military attack.

Sky News Arabia also claimed that the media coverage of the attack would send a message to the Islamic world – that "Israel is as vulnerable to destruction as Jews have been historically." The report claims that this could inspire the international community to find a political solution to the conflict, but it is unclear how this conclusion was reached. The report also claims that the attack on this day could restore the morale of terrorist groups that attack Israel, reinvigorating them for future attacks and showing that Iran will continue to support terrorist leaders in the region.

Iran attempted to attack Israel in April but has launched only a few direct attacks on Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles. According to IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagri, 99% of the projectiles fired - 170 explosive UAVs, 30 cruise missiles and 120 ballistic missiles - were shot down by Israel and its allies, causing only minor damage to an IAF base in southern Israel
