Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Buried with Full State Honour in Mashhad

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash on the evening of 19 May. He buried with full state honour in Mashhad, Iran's second largest city on Thursday. 

His body has been brought to Mashhad city. Raisi was born in this city. Raisi's family also reached Mashhad airport on Thursday morning. 

They also attend the final farewell ceremony of the President. According to Turkish news agency Anadolu, leaders and diplomats from around 68 countries from all over the world were also present in this program.

These include India's Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Apart from him, Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Iraqi PM Mohammad Shia Al Sudani and Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif, as well as presidents of many countries arrived.

Taliban Deputy PM Mullah Baradar, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniye and representatives of Houthi rebels arrived to bid farewell to Raisi. 

Foreign leaders and officials were received by Iran's interim President Mohammad Mukherjee, interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and many other officials.

Earlier on Wednesday, the process of funeral of Ibrahim Raisi and other officials started under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. 

He prayed for Raisi. Thousands of people from different places across the country reached Tehran to see it.

Iranian citizens wearing black clothes participated in the procession taken out with the body. After this, the coffins of the dead were kept in Tehran University. 

These coffins were wrapped in the Iranian flag. Photographs of the dead were pasted on these. During the last farewell ceremony in Tehran, huge banners of Ibrahim Raisi were put up, in which the late President was described as a martyr.

Iran and countries around the world are shocked by Raisi's death. At the same time, there is a section in Iran which is celebrating his death. According to TIME's report, people living in Kurdish areas and families of those who were injured and lost their lives in the movements that took place during Raisi's tenure are celebrating his death.

The daughters of 62-year-old Minu Majidi, who was killed during a protest in 2022, posted videos on social media celebrating Raisi's death. 

Apart from them, two more Iranian women, Masradeh Shahinkar and Sima Muradbegi, shared videos celebrating Raisi's death by dancing.

Raisi's helicopter crashed on Sunday (May 19) near Iran's Varzeghan city, close to the Azerbaijan border. 

This is a mountainous area. Rescue agencies conducted a search operation throughout the night amid heavy rain, fog and severe cold. The wreckage of the helicopter was found in the hills of Azerbaijan on Monday morning.

According to Iranian state media IRNA, Raisi went to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev on the morning of May 19. It was made jointly by Iran and Azerbaijan.

While returning, a total of 9 people were on board his helicopter, including Foreign Minister Hossein, Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malik Rahmati, Imam of Tabriz Mohammad Ali Alhashem. 

These included the helicopter's pilot and co-pilot along with the crew chief, head of security and bodyguard. Everyone lost their lives in the accident.

After the death of President Ibrahim Raisi, Deputy President Mohammad Mukhber (68) has been made the interim President. 

Mukhber was elected Vice President in 2021 after Ibrahim Raisi assumed office. According to Article 131 of the Constitution, two more responsibilities have been assigned to the informer.

The informant will also be the head of the judiciary and speaker of the parliament. While holding these two posts, he will make preparations for holding presidential elections in the next 50 days as per the Constitution.
