As the nuclear talks with Iran are heading towards failure, the US has increased the security of its military bases in West Asia (Middle East). The Donald Trump administration has asked its employees to leave Iraq. The families of the soldiers have been allowed to leave the US bases.
These steps have been taken at a time when the possibility of Israel attacking Iran's nuclear bases is increasing. US intelligence officials are worried that Israel may take action without US approval. In such a situation, the US can also become a part of the fight.
If Israel attacks Iran , Tehran can also retaliate against US bases in West Asia. Iran has warned that if its land is attacked, America will be held responsible. This has raised the possibility of a big war starting in the entire region. All this is happening when Iran and America are negotiating on the nuclear issue. The sixth round of talks between the two sides is scheduled in Oman on Sunday but it may be postponed. There is a fear of this meeting getting derailed.
According to the Washington Post report, US intelligence officials have raised the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iran and Iran's retaliation. To prepare for this possibility, the US State Department has ordered embassies located near Iranian targets to hold emergency meetings and report security measures. These include embassies located in West Asia, Eastern Europe and North Africa.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved the return of non-essential embassy staff to Iraq. The US Central Command is working with the State Department and allies to be prepared. A senior diplomat told the Washington Post that we are concerned. We think this is a more serious situation than any time in the past.
US Senator Tom Cotton claimed in a post on X that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran is actively working towards a nuclear weapon. For the sake of our national security, the security of our allies, and the safety of millions of citizens in the region, this cannot be allowed to happen. US President Donald Trump has also expressed doubts about reaching a nuclear deal with Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran's UN mission has called for diplomacy instead of military action. The mission said in a post on X that Iran does not want nuclear weapons but US militarism is only promoting instability. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that we resume talks with the US on Sunday. It is clear that an agreement ensuring the continued peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program can be achieved.
