Jay Shah Becomes The New Chairman of ICC

Jai Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has been unanimously elected as the next chairman of the International Cricket Council. Jai Shah will take charge on December 1, 2024. Jai Shah has been the BCCI secretary since October 2019. He is also the President of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021.

Let us tell you, Jai Shah has become the youngest ICC chairman. After the current president Greg Barclay decided not to take a third term, there was a discussion about the name of Jai Shah and Jai Shah was the only person who nominated for the post of president.

On his election, Jai Shah has expressed his intention to further the global reach and popularity of cricket. Jai Shah is very confident about the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and sees it as an important opportunity for the development of the sport. On becoming the ICC Chairman, Jai Shah said, "I am overwhelmed by the nomination as the President of the International Cricket Council."

According to the ICC's pre-release, Jay Shah said on becoming the chairman, "I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member countries to further globalize cricket. We are standing at a critical juncture where it has become increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies and introduce our flagship programs to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before."

Jai Shah further added, "While we will carry forward the valuable lessons learned, we must also embrace new thinking and innovation to continue spreading the love for cricket around the world. The inclusion of our sport in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a turning point for the development of cricket, and I am confident it will propel the sport forward in an unprecedented manner."

The election of Jay Shah marks a new chapter for the ICC as it seeks to expand the reach of the game and continue its growth on the global stage. Jay Shah has become the ICC chairman at the age of just 35 and is the youngest person to hold this position.
