Kolkata Doctor Raped, Murdered: Resident Doctors To Go on Nationwide Strike on Monday

The protests against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital are growing.

The West Bengal Health Department has suspended the superintendent of RG Medical College.

The resident doctors' protest continues on the third day of the incident. They allege that the entire security agency of this medical college is flawed.

Protests are also being held in Delhi over the Kolkata incident. On Sunday (August 11), the Federation of All India Resident Doctors Association (FRODA), an organization of resident doctors, has announced that a strike will be held across the country from August 12.

According to the India Today's news, Sanjay Roy, the accused of murdering the trainee doctor, had married four times. Three of his wives have left him due to his bad behaviour. His fourth wife died last year due to cancer.

On the morning of 9 August, the body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. When the police took Sanjay into custody and questioned him, he confessed to the rape and murder. Currently, Sanjay is in 14-day police custody.

According to the police, the body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital on the morning of 9 August. A Bluetooth earphone was also found at the crime scene. In the CCTV footage, accused Sanjay was seen entering the seminar hall at 4 am.

During this time he was wearing earphones in his ears. After some time when he came out of the hall, he did not have earphones. After this some suspects including Sanjay were called for questioning.

The police tried to connect the earphones found at the crime scene to the phones of all the suspects. The earphones got connected to Sanjay's phone. During interrogation, Sanjay confessed to rape and murder.

Sanjay worked as a civic volunteer to assist the police in the hospital. He had access to most departments of the hospital. The police arrested him on 9 August.

The resident doctors' organization Federation of All India Resident Doctors Association (FRODA) has announced a nationwide strike on August 12 to protest against the Kolkata incident.

The association has written to the Union Health Ministry today and tomorrow as well. It has announced a nationwide strike on August 12 and a shutdown of elective services (not including emergency services) in hospitals.

Resident doctors allege that the entire security agency of RG Kar Medical College is flawed. The doctors said that they had demanded to increase the number of CCTV cameras in the hospital premises and strict surveillance 24 hours a day. However, the management did not pay heed to this.

On Saturday, Medical Education Director Dr. Kaustav Nayak had said that this is not a natural death. Investigation is going on. The detailed report will come within 1-2 days. Only then will the cause of death be known
