Labour Sweeps UK General Election. Rishi Sunak Govt Suffered Historic Defeat

The Labour Party has has registered landslide victory in UK general election. The Labour Party has won 401 seats in the out of 650. 326 seats are required in the Parliament to form a government. 

On the other hand, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party has managed to get only 113 seats so far.

According to BBC, Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer will be the next Prime Minister of Britain. After the results were announced, Sunak accepted defeat and apologised to his Conservative party. He also called Starmer and congratulated him on his victory.

Earlier, Sunak won his seat Richmond and Northallerton. Labour Party's PM candidate Keir Starmer has also won London's Holborn and St Pancras seat. Voting started in Britain on 4 July at 7 am (11:30 am Indian time) at 40 thousand polling centers.

The exit poll results were announced shortly after the voting ended at 10 pm (2:30 am Indian time). It predicted a crushing defeat for the Conservative Party of Indian-origin Sunak.

Rishi Sunak admitted it has been a 'difficult night' for him and his party. Getting emotional, Sunak said, "On this difficult night, I want to express my gratitude to the people of the Richmond and Northallerton constituency for their continued support. The Labour Party has won this general election. I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory." He said, "Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner with the goodwill of all parties. This is something that should give us confidence in the stability and future of our country. The British people have given a serious verdict tonight. There is a lot to learn and I take responsibility for this defeat."

Rishi Sunak said in his speech that he is taking responsibility for the defeat. He said that the change of power will happen peacefully. In the latest results, the Labor Party has got 381 seats. Sunak's Conservative Party has got only 92 seats. So far, results have been declared for 562 out of 650 seats.

After the Labour Party's landslide victory, PM hopeful Keir Starmer addressed the crowd. He said, "Thank you very much to the voters. We did it. You campaigned for this and fought the election battle and now the moment has come. The change has now begun. People across the country are getting to know this news. The burden has finally been lifted from the shoulders of this great country."
