Traffic movement along National Highway 27 came to a standstill on Wednesday after a major portion of the road collapsed at Dolai Chunag under Harangajao police station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, following a massive landslide.
Authorities have suspended the movement of heavy vehicles to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of commuters. The disruption has resulted in hundreds of trucks and buses being stranded on both sides of the affected stretch.
District officials and engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD) have reached the site to assess the extent of damage and initiate restoration work. Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and reopen the highway for light vehicles at the earliest.
Officials have urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel in the region until the road is declared safe for movement. The landslide-prone Dima Hasao district has witnessed frequent disruptions in connectivity due to heavy rains and fragile terrain.
