In a significant security breach, personnel of the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended a youth carrying an illegal firearm at Agartala Railway Station during a routine inspection.
The arrest was made in the early hours when officers, acting on suspicion, intercepted the individual for questioning. A thorough search led to the seizure of a pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges from his possession. He was immediately detained and taken to the GRP police station for further interrogation.
During initial questioning, the accused disclosed his identity as Subrata Dutta, a resident under the Madhupur police station area. He reportedly confessed to having procured the weapon from Bihar and transporting it by train to Agartala, with plans to sell it in Madhupur.
Following the incident, Officer-in-Charge Raju Bhowmik informed senior officials, while a forensic team was called in to examine the recovered items and gather evidence.
Police sources stated that the accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday, and investigators will seek his remand for detailed questioning. Authorities are also exploring whether a larger network is involved in the illegal arms trade.
