Manipur CM Biren Singh to Resign? MLAs Are in Delhi For Leadership Change

In Manipur, there is  growing buzz since  past few days that there is going to be a leadership change in the state. A section of MLAs from the BJP and its allies Naga People's Front (NPF), National People's Party (NPP) and JDU are pressuring Chief Minister Biren Singh to step down.

Amidst the buzz of this possible leadership change, Chief Minister Biren Singh has also admitted that some MLAs of his party and allies are in Delhi. However, the CM categorically rejected the fact that the MLAs' Delhi visit has anything to do with his resignation.

Biren Singh took over as the Chief Minister of Manipur in 2017. According to sources, since he took over, allies have tried several times to convince the BJP leadership so that he could not become the Chief Minister. However, after the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, it gained momentum. However, the result was still zero.

This time BJP has had to pay the electoral price after losing both the Lok Sabha seats in Manipur to Congress, from which it is being speculated that this time things are going to be different.

Chief Minister Biren Singh met the reporters amid the buzz of leadership change. He said that he had a meeting with NDA allies last night. During this, it was decided that a memorandum for lasting peace in Manipur would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Let us tell you that NDA allies have 53 seats out of 60 assembly seats in the state. At the same time, BJP alone has 37 seats.

The situation of Manipur has once again been raised strongly by the opposition, which has found a new voice after defying all expectations and managing to stop the BJP not only from the target of 370 Lok Sabha seats, but also from the majority figure of 272.

The India Alliance now has 232 members in the Lok Sabha and the BJP has 240 members, while the allies have 293 members of the NDA.

In June 2023, when the pressure on the government was at its peak, Chief Minister Biren Singh almost resigned. During this time, a minister also claimed that the CM had left for the Governor's House with his resignation.

However, the CM returned due to hundreds of women supporters gathered outside his residence in Imphal. During this time, it was also claimed that two ministers who wanted to see Singh remain the CM, snatched the resignation and tore it.
