Manipur: Four Militants Arrested With Weapons

A leader of the Meitei organisation Arambai Tengol (AT) has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a disabled person in Manipur's Imphal West district. The arrested AT leader has been identified as Longjam Khaba Singh (35), a resident of Yumnam Huidrom Thiam Leishangkhong, police said in a statement. He is the prime accused in the murder of MD Chesam Abdul Kadir of Paobitech Meitei Leikai. He was arrested from Mongsangei Makha Leikai Arubam Leikai near Puthiba Laibung Complex on Sunday
According to the statement, 10 people, including seven AT members, have been arrested so far in connection with the murder. Chesam went missing on June 11 midnight and his body was later found buried at Samuro Naorem in Imphal West district. The body was exhumed on June 17 in the presence of an executive magistrate, forensic team and family members. A criminal case has been registered, police had said. The murder sparked protests and condemnation by several Muslim organisations in the Imphal Valley.
Four militants arrested, arms seized:
Meanwhile, four militants of the banned outfit PREPAK (PRO) were arrested in Imphal East district. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized from their possession. The arrested militants have been identified as Thingbaijam Philip Singh, Lourembam Kumar Meitei, Laishram Haridas and Yumnam Akash Singh. A police statement said they were arrested from different places in the district on Sunday. Based on information provided by the arrested militants, a search operation was launched in the foothills of Kalika in the district and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized. The cache included four self-loading rifles and 10 magazines, one light machine gun, one .303 modified sniper and two magazines, 82 cartridges, five hand grenades and nine detonators.
