Caste conflict has once again increased in Manipur. On Tuesday, students protested over the law and order situation in the state. After the students' protest, Governor Acharya left for Assam. University examinations have been postponed. Students allege that the DGP and the state government's security advisor are unable to deal with law and order. Therefore, they should be removed from their posts.
The students had marched towards the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. During this, they clashed with the security forces. Now Manipur University has postponed PG and UG examinations till further orders. More than 55 students and security personnel suffered minor injuries in the clash near the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Ethnic violence has erupted again in Manipur. Drones and rockets have been used in this. After the clash near the Raj Bhavan, the Governor met 11 student representatives on Tuesday night. Police say that there were no new incidents of protests and violence in the Imphal valley on Wednesday.
Additional forces have been deployed in the capital Imphal. Barricades have been put up in sensitive areas. On Tuesday, security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesting students. Students pelted stones in BT Road and Kakwa areas of Imphal. They clashed with police personnel to reach the Raj Bhavan.
The students were protesting since Monday morning. They camped overnight in the markets of Khwairamband. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that he has met the students of Imphal College and Ibotansana Higher Secondary School. He assured them that the government is committed to solving the state issues.
He said that the students have expressed their concern about the ongoing unrest in the state. I value their concern. We have discussed their challenges and the impact it will have on their education. I want to assure all the students that we are committed to solving these issues. We will work together for a better future for Manipur
