The State of Manipur is in deep mourning following the tragic loss of two of its daughters—Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) and Lamnunthem Singson (28)—who were among the cabin crew members aboard the ill-fated Air India flight that crashed near Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. Both women, hailing from Manipur, had dedicated themselves to the skies, driven by dreams that now remain heartbreakingly unfulfilled.
In an official statement, the Government of Manipur expressed profound sorrow over the untimely demise of the two young women, describing them as “symbols of courage, grace, and youthful ambition.” Their tragic passing has not only devastated their families but has cast a somber shadow across the entire state.
> “These young women were not just crew members; they were the pride of our state, soaring high with dreams and inspiring many,” the government said in its condolence message.
In a demonstration of solidarity and compassion, the Government of Manipur has been in close communication with the Tata Group and Air India, expressing readiness to receive the mortal remains of the deceased at Imphal. Comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the remains are handled with the utmost dignity and respect, from arrival to their final journey home.
Authorities have also reaffirmed that the wishes of the bereaved families will remain paramount. The government has pledged its full support—logistically, emotionally, and ceremonially—while safeguarding the privacy and preferences of those grieving.
The Chief Minister, along with senior state officials, extended heartfelt condolences, stating that this was more than just the loss of two lives—it was “the silencing of dreams and the extinguishing of two brilliant lights who once soared among the clouds.”
As Manipur mourns this irreparable loss, it stands united in grief, remembering Nganthoi and Singson not just for who they were, but for all they aspired to become.
