Manu Bhaker Missed Out Hat-trick of Medals In Paris Olympics

On the eighth day of Paris Olympics 2024 i.e. on August 3, the eyes of Indian fans were on star shooter Manu Bhaker, who was participating in the final of the Women's 25m Pistol. 

Manu was expected to win a medal in this final, but she finished fourth. Manu Bhaker also missed out on making a hat-trick of medals in this Olympics. 

After the match, Manu Bhaker posted on social media platform X and thanked everyone for the wishes and congratulations she was receiving. She thanked everyone for their support.

Manu Bhaker wrote on X, 'I am extremely overwhelmed by the support and wishes being sent by everyone. Winning 2 bronze medals is a dream come true. This achievement is not just mine but of everyone who believed in me and supported me. I would not have been able to do this without the unwavering support of my family, coach Jaspal Rana Sir and everyone who stood by me including NRAI, TOPS, SAI, OGQ, Performax and especially the Haryana Government. It is a moment of great pride and joy for me to compete and perform on the biggest stage for my country along with all my well-wishers. Manu Bhaker, who won the shoot-off, was at one point in the final match in a position to win a medal. After the completion of seven series, Manu Bhaker was in second place. 

At that time, only four shooters were left in the race. After this, the eighth series took place, after the completion of which one shooter had to be eliminated. In the eighth series, only 2 out of five shots of Manu hit the target. In this way, Manu and Hungary's Veronica Major got equal 28-28 points.

In the final of any Olympic shooting event, if two shooters have equal points in the elimination stage, then a shoot-off is resorted to. In such a situation, one of the shooters, Manu and Veronica, had to finish fourth, for which a shoot-off was resorted to. In the shoot-off, the Hungarian shooter hit 3 out of 5 shots correctly. Manu Bhaker, on the other hand, could hit only two out of 5 shots.

South Korea's Jin Yang won the gold medal in this event. France's Camille Jedrzejewski won the silver. Jin and Camille had 37-37 points, so a shootout was resorted to. Hungary's Veronika Major won the bronze medal. A total of 8 shooters participated in the final match of Women's 25 meter pistol. 

If Manu Bhaker had won a medal in this event, she would have become India's greatest athlete, because no Indian player has ever won 3 medals individually. After winning the bronze medal in the individual 10 meter air pistol, Manu Bhaker also won the bronze medal in the mixed team category along with Sarabjot Singh.
