Messi Meets Sachin at Wankhede, Fans Witness Sporting History

Argentine football legend Lionel Messi created history at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on the second day of his three-day “GOAT India” tour, where he met Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar in a rare and emotional sporting moment.

Messi arrived at the stadium around 5:30 pm, holding the flags of Argentina and India alongside teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul. Fans began gathering at the venue from the afternoon, eager to catch a glimpse of the football icon. The atmosphere turned electric as Messi waved to the crowd and interacted with young football enthusiasts, even throwing footballs into the stands.

Around 6 pm, Sachin Tendulkar joined Messi at the stadium and presented him with his iconic 2011 ODI World Cup Team India jersey, specially engraved with Messi’s name. The exchange symbolised mutual respect between two global sporting legends and was met with loud cheers from the spectators.

India’s football icon Sunil Chhetri also reached the stadium around 5:30 pm and took part in a friendly match between the Indian Stars and Mitra Stars teams. Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was seen playing alongside the teams. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, entertaining the packed audience.

Messi later met Sunil Chhetri and gifted him a signed jersey and a memento. He also participated in a penalty shootout session, during which fans passionately chanted “Barca,” referencing Messi’s legendary association with FC Barcelona.

The football superstar further delighted fans by playing with children on the field and circling the stadium to greet spectators. Messi also participated in a paddle event in Mumbai with Suarez and De Paul.

The evening concluded with Messi meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bollywood celebrities including Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor, marking a grand blend of sports, cinema, and public admiration.
