The Nagaland Government Teachers' Association (NGTA) has announced that it will intensify its agitation from March 2, alleging continued inaction by the state government despite a series of protests.
Addressing the media in Kohima on February 27, the association said the move comes after the expiry of a seven-day ultimatum, a two-day pen-down strike, and two days of peaceful demonstrations, none of which elicited a response to its primary demand β not even βin principle.β
The teachers are pressing for the inclusion of their salary components under the State Non-Development Expenditure head through the Directorate of School Education. According to the NGTA, the current exclusion has adversely affected service conditions and undermined the financial security of government educators for years.
On Friday, approximately 2,293 teachers staged a protest at the Directorate of School Education in Kohima. The association stated that repeated representations and negotiations have failed to secure any concrete assurance, compelling it to escalate the agitation.
The next phase of the protest will commence on March 2 at Solidarity Park in Kohima. While signalling growing unrest among government teachers in Nagaland, the association reiterated its commitment to democratic means and expressed willingness to engage in dialogue should the government respond positively to its demand at the policy level.
