Top US diplomat Eric Garcetti has said that the US space agency NASA will soon provide advanced training to Indian astronauts with an aim to enhance joint efforts for the International Space Station.

Garcetti, the US Ambassador to India, made these remarks at the “US-India Commercial Space Summit: Unlocking Opportunities for US and Indian Space Startups” event organized by the US-India Business Council (USIBC) and the US Commercial Service (USCS) in Bengaluru.

"NASA will soon provide advanced training to Indian astronauts to enhance joint efforts for the International Space Station. It is expected to start this year or later. Soon we will launch the NISAR satellite from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Center to monitor all resources including ecosystems, earth's surface, natural hazards, rising sea levels and the cryosphere," Garcetti was quoted as saying by USIBC in a statement issued here.

The day-long event in Bengaluru was attended by senior US and Indian government officials, including Garcetti, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr Somnath S. and representatives from NASA.
