NDA vs INDIA: By-election Held In 13 Assembly Seats in 7 States

After the results of the Lok Sabha elections, by-elections were held on 13 assembly seats in 7 states on Wednesday (10 July). Voting began at 7 am and continued till 6 pm. Apart from sporadic incidents, the voting was overall peaceful. The results will be declared on 13 July.

In North Dinajpur, West Bengal, BJP-TMC supporters clashed with each other alleging rigging at the booth. The police pacified the situation. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar alleged that TMC goons were standing at the intersections and stopping people going to vote.

Police force had to be deployed after clashes at Mangalore seat in Uttarakhand. Clashes broke out between police and villagers at Rupauli seat in Purnia, Bihar. According to the police, a crowd of people had gathered outside the booth. When the police asked them to disperse, an argument began. After this, the crowd pelted stones at the police. An SHO and a constable were injured.

By-elections are being held on the maximum 4 seats in West Bengal- Raiganj, Ranaghat South, Bagda and Maniktala. Voting took place for Badrinath and Mangalore in Uttarakhand, Jalandhar West seat in Punjab. Votes were cast for by-elections in Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh in Himachal, Rupauli in Bihar, Vikravandi in Tamil Nadu, Amarwara seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Out of these 13 seats, BJP had won 3 seats in Bengal last time. Out of the other 10, Congress had won 2 and other parties had won 8 seats. 10 seats were vacant due to the resignation of MLAs and 3 seats were vacant due to the death of the current MLA.
