Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that safeguarding child rights is not solely the duty of governments and institutions but a shared responsibility of families, communities, and society at large.
Speaking at the One-Day North Eastern Regional Convention on Child Rights held at Prajna Bhavan, the Chief Minister highlighted a range of initiatives undertaken in the state to ensure child welfare and protection.
Since 2022, Tripura has facilitated the legal adoption of 28 children, while Special Juvenile Police Units have been established in all eight districts. Currently, the state runs 44 child care institutions housing nearly 950 children, with over 4,200 children benefiting from sponsorship programs. Additionally, 14 young adults have received aftercare support to help them reintegrate into society after leaving institutional care.
“Children are not miniature adults; they are human beings with their own rights. They are our future and the foundation of our nation. If we neglect children, we neglect our future,” Dr. Saha said.
On the nutrition front, the Chief Minister informed that schemes under ICDS and Poshan Abhiyan reached around 2.29 lakh children in July 2025, providing nutrition support, growth monitoring, and preventing malnutrition.
He further noted that Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees are now functional in all eight districts, strengthening the state’s child protection framework. With the right opportunities and guidance, Dr. Saha asserted, the children of Tripura can shine not only in India but also on the global stage.
