Nepal Launches New Rs 100 Currency Note Printing 3 Disputed Territories With India

Nepal announced printing of new Rs 100 notes with a map. The areas of India - Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani have been shown in these notes.

According to the agency, government spokesperson Rekha Sharma, after getting information about the cabinet decision, said that in the meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda', the decision was taken to print a new map of Nepal, in which Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani has ben included in the bank notes of Rs 100.

Information and Communications Minister Rekha Sharma said, "The Cabinet during the  meetings held on April 25 and May 2 approved the redesign of the Rs 100 bank note and changing the old map printed in the background of the bank note."

On June 18, 2020, Nepal completed the process of updating the country's political map by amending its constitution to include three strategically areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura. India reacted sharply to this decision and called it a "unilateral action".

India maintains its rights over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura. Nepal shares a border of more than 1,850 kilometers with five Indian states – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In June 2023, Nepali PM Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda', during his visit to India, had talked about resolving the border dispute in the spirit of friendship.

At present, there is a border dispute between India and Nepal over Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh India-Nepal and China and Susta area (West Champaran district, Bihar).

Kalapani is a valley, in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. It is situated on Kailash Mansarovar road. In the Kalapani region, the Kali River forms the border between India and Nepal. Difficulty in locating the source of the river led to a border dis between India and Nepal.

The main reason for the conflict in Susta area is changing the course of Gandak river. Susta is situated on the banks of river Gandak. In Nepal it is called Narayani River and it joins Ganga near Patna in Bihar.
