New Rail Corridor Proposed For Bodhjungnagar Industries

The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a final location survey for the construction of a new railway line in Tripura to connect the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex, a move expected to significantly boost industrial growth and trade in the state.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Monday that the proposed railway line will run between the Jirania rail yard and Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex in West Tripura district.

The survey will cover a stretch of 14 kilometres and has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹42 lakh.

According to Sharma, the approval marks an important step towards strengthening railway infrastructure and supporting industrial expansion in Tripura. Bodhjungnagar is a major industrial and commercial hub in the state, developed primarily for resource-based industries such as rubber, bamboo and food processing.

The proposed Jirania–Bodhjungnagar rail link is expected to provide a crucial transportation corridor for industrial goods, benefiting traders, manufacturers and local communities. It will also help improve supply chains, enable smoother train operations and contribute to overall economic growth in the region.

The final location survey will include a detailed assessment of geographical features, soil conditions, bridge requirements and other engineering aspects. Based on the findings, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Ministry of Railways for further approval.

Meanwhile, the government-owned Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) has developed the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex over 535.73 acres in West Tripura district. The complex houses several industrial zones, including a Growth Centre, Rubber Park, Bamboo Park, Food Park and Export Promotion Industrial Park, along with numerous private industrial units.
