NH 6 Collapsed In Meghalaya. Tripura, Mizoram, Barak Isolated By Road

National Highway No. 6  in Meghalaya has been washed away due to heavy rain during last 48 hours. Large potholes has formed under the road in Lumungsung area. Some parts of the road have collapsed there.

The Meghalaya government has stopped traffic on that road for an indefinite period. As a result, communication with the outside state by road has been severed from Assam's Barak Valley and the neighboring states of Tripura and Mizoram. 

There is no assurance when that important road will be operational. The closure of this road has resulted food shortages in Barak Valley, Tripura and Mizoram. The price of goods is increasing.

On the other hand the flood situation in Assam has again taken a dire shape. According to the government, more than two lakh people in 16 districts of the state are affecte. But local residents claims that the actual figure is much more. 

This time too, the flood situation in three districts of Barak valley of the state has taken a dire shape. Seven people have died in the last two days due to floods and landslides in Karimganj district. Meanwhile, five members of a family died in the landslide on Wednesday. This tragic incident took place in Gainachra village of Englerbazar panchayat under Badarpur circle of Karimganj district. 

A house suddenly collapsed in the middle of Tuesday night. Five people including two children died in the collapse. Two somehow survived. 

The deceased are Roy Munnesha Begum (55), her three daughters Sahida Khanam (18), Mahida Khanam (16), Hamida Khanam (11) and Mehdi Hasan (3) respectively. Grandson of Mehdi Hasan Raimunnesha. 

In this incident, Abdul Karim, husband of the owner of that house, Raimunnesha, and their other daughter, Khalida Khanam, survived. The incident took place on Tuesday night around twelve o'clock. 

Abdul Karim said, everyone fell asleep after having dinner. All the victims were in the same bed in the same room. Elderly Abdul Karim was in bed in another room. And daughter Khalida Khanam was in a separate bed. It rains heavily at night. The mud wall next to the house broke and fell on the house. 

After receiving the news, the SDRF team rushes to the spot. A team of police also went from Badarpur police station. The victims were dug out  and pulled out. This incident has cast a shadow of mourning on the area.

Meanwhile, a student named Sahil Ahmed (20) died of electrocution in Karimganj town on Tuesday. Flood water entered his house. There was a problem while connection the lines of the inverter and refrigerator. Besides, on that day, a construction worker named Nitai Shabdkar went out in search of work in Shirishpur of Hailakandi district and was swept away by the flood. Later his body was recovered. 

All the rivers in Barak valley are flowing one to two meters above the danger level. Most of the roads in the three districts of the valley are under water. One third of the village is waterlogged.
