NIA Raids Across Five States Including Tripura, Meghalaya In Al-Qaeda Conspiracy Probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted coordinated searches across Tripura, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Haryana, and Gujarat as part of an ongoing investigation into an Al-Qaeda-linked terror conspiracy involving illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

The raids, held at 10 locations, targeted premises connected to suspects and their associates. Officials seized several digital devices and incriminating documents, which are now undergoing forensic analysis.

The case, registered as RC-19/2023/NIA/DLI (Al-Qaida Gujarat case) in June 2023, is being investigated under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code, and the Foreigners Act.

NIA identified four Bangladeshi nationals — Mohd. Sojibmiyan, Munna Khalid Ansari, Azarul Islam, and Abdul Latif — as key operatives who illegally entered India using forged documents. The suspects allegedly maintained links with the banned Al-Qaeda organisation, collecting and transferring funds to operatives in Bangladesh while radicalising Muslim youth.

The investigation saw a major development on November 10, 2023, when the NIA filed a chargesheet against five accused before the NIA Special Court in Ahmedabad. The agency continues to trace the network’s operations, financial channels, and cross-border connections to prevent further infiltration through the northeastern corridor.
