Iltija Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the alleged removal of a female doctor’s hijab during a government event in Patna.
Speaking in Srinagar, Iltija Mufti said that the Chief Minister had no right to interfere with a woman’s religious attire. She warned that any further attempts to do so would be strongly opposed by Muslim women. She also demanded a public apology from Nitish Kumar for the incident.
The PDP leader has filed a complaint at the Kothibagh police station in Srinagar, seeking legal action against the Bihar Chief Minister. However, police officials have not yet confirmed whether a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the matter.
The incident occurred on December 15 during a ceremony in Patna where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was distributing appointment letters to 1,283 newly recruited AYUSH doctors. During the event, a female doctor, identified as Nusrat Parveen, came on stage wearing a hijab. While handing over the appointment letter, Nitish Kumar allegedly removed her hijab in full public view, triggering widespread criticism and political reactions.
