No Compromise on State Security, STF Deployed: Tripura CM

In a decisive move to safeguard Tripura from illegal infiltration, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday announced the deployment of Special Task Forces (STFs) in eight districts of the state. Acting under Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, each STF is led by senior police officers of Additional SP or DySP rank, with 129 personnel specially tasked to identify, detain and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Dr. Saha revealed this in the Assembly while responding to a notice brought by MLA Ranjit Debbarma. He stressed that the state government is uncompromising when it comes to border security. “Illegal infiltration will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The safety of our people comes first,” the Chief Minister declared.

The CM said the state-level STF has also been tasked with tackling terrorism, drug smuggling, extremism and cross-border crime networks. Following the political turmoil in Bangladesh on August 5 last year, a high-level emergency meeting was convened in Agartala, bringing together the Chief Secretary, the DGP and top officials of security agencies to formulate a comprehensive border security strategy.

Despite fencing along much of the Indo-Bangla border, certain stretches remain vulnerable due to geographical constraints, increasing the risk of infiltration. The Chief Minister assured that the Central Government has been apprised of the matter and strict instructions issued to all security agencies.

Surveillance has been intensified at airports, railway stations and bus terminals. Joint operations with the BSF and intelligence-sharing among agencies are now routine, Dr. Saha informed. Crackdowns on fake document rackets have also reduced the rate of infiltration.

“The security of Tripura is being monitored at the highest level. Regular reviews are being conducted and coordination with national agencies has been stepped up. Protecting our borders is our top priority,” the CM reiterated, underlining the state government’s firm stand against illegal entry.
