North East Gas Grid Project Work In Tripura To Complete By March Next: Report

The work of North East Gas Grid (NEGG) project if Rs 9,265-crore  in Tripura is expected to be completed by March next year, an official said on Friday.

The NEGG project will involve laying 253-km of gas pipelines across seven districts of the northeastern state as part of a plan to coordinate gas supply in the region.

Vishwashree B., director of the state's Industries and Commerce Department, informed news agency PTI, "The Northeast Gas Grid (NEGG) project in seven districts of Tripura is being executed by a joint venture unit Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL). Five companies GAIL, IOCL, OIL, NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Limited) and ONGC have stakes in it."

He said that out of the total target of 253 km of pipeline in the state, about 105 km of line has been laid so far… “The remaining work of the project… land acquisition, pipeline welding and laying of pipeline etc. will be completed by March 2025.

"There has been some delay in the payment of compensation for land acquisition due to non-availability of certified documents of the owners. However, the District Magistrates (DMs) have resolved the issue and the payment process is underway," he said.

The northeastern state has estimated reserves of eight billion cubic metres of gas.
