Three women from Arunachal Pradesh have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against their neighbours in Malviya Nagar, alleging racial abuse, intimidation, and character defamation, police officials confirmed.
The Delhi Police registered a case on Sunday against Harish Singh and his wife under Sections 79, 351(2), 3(5), and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Although no physical assault was reported, the complainants stated that they endured severe psychological distress and public humiliation.
According to investigators, the altercation occurred around 3:30 pm on February 20, when drilling and electrical repairs were underway in the women’s fourth-floor apartment. Dust and debris from the work reportedly fell onto the floor below, prompting objections from the accused couple.
However, the complainants allege that instead of addressing the issue civilly, the neighbours resorted to racially charged and derogatory remarks, invoking offensive stereotypes and allegedly impugning their character. They further claimed that their modesty was outraged during the confrontation.
Videos of the incident have since circulated widely on social media, amplifying public scrutiny. In one clip, a woman is allegedly heard insinuating that the residents were operating a “massage parlour” from their home and making disparaging comments about their personal conduct. The complainant is heard refuting the accusations and challenging the neighbour to substantiate the claims.
The women also alleged that in the aftermath of the dispute, a property broker informed them that they would be required to vacate the premises within two months, citing anticipated repair work. They have demanded a formal apology, asserting that the remarks were not merely personal affronts but also deeply injurious to the dignity of the wider northeastern community.
