Nothing in The Budget For Violence Affected 60k Displaced People: Manipur Congress

The opposition Congress in Manipur on Tuesday criticised the BJP-led government at the Centre, alleging that it has ignored the plight of the state in the Union Budget, which has not only faced devastating floods but also suffered from ethnic violence.

State Congress president K. Meghachandra alleged that the budget is biased.

He said, "A discriminatory attitude is adopted in the budget. No attention has been given to the entire Northeast. Manipur was once again ignored. Flood-affected Assam is mentioned, but there is no mention of the flood in Manipur..." He said,

"Not providing any assistance to more than 60 thousand displaced people is also very disappointing. We are extremely disappointed" he said.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP in the state praised the budget, saying it is dedicated to the holistic and inclusive development of all citizens. State BJP spokesperson M Asanikumar said in a statement, "For greater social justice, we will adopt a balanced approach to bring all eligible persons under various programmes, including education and health."

He said, "I am happy to know that the budget proposes to allocate Rs 2 lakh crore for employment generation in five years and a new employment skill scheme.
