One Dies, Over 30 Ill After Eating 'Prasad' In Dharmanagar

One died of poisoning after consuming Prasad of Shiv Puja on the occasion of the inauguration of  Shiva temple. Another 32 people fell ill. One of them is reportedly  critical.

This tragic incident took place at the house of Arun Nath located in Ward No. 4 of Dewanpasha Village Panchayat of Dharmanagar subdivision under North Tripura district. 

Relatives and neighbors were invited to receive Shiv Puja Prasad at Arun Nath's house last Thursday at the Shiva temple inauguration ceremony. After having the prasad, the relatives and neighbors went back to their respective homes.

From night till Friday morning everyone started feeling physically ill. Their symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, fever and headache. People from different areas  rushed to local hospitals. A person named Shalindra Debnath (59) died at a private Nursing Home located at Dharmanagar  at around ten o'clock on Saturday night. The house of the deceased is in Dewan Pasha area.

Officials of the Food Safety Department rushed to Dewan Pasha's Arun Nath's house on Sunday and recovered packets of various spices. They said that nothing was found from the spot. Only packets of various spices has been recovered. Which is being under test. 

Anik Debnath, son of the deceased, and Sudarshan Nath and Ashutosh Nath, the ill persons, said that they developed physical ailments after consuming  prasad and khichuri ( hotchpotch) prasad of Shiv Puja on Thursday. According to them, Prasad was poisoned.

Common people's anger against the Food Safety Department has increased. They say that usually the officials of the Food Safety Department are not seen doing any raids in the field. Expired  foods are there in various markets.
