Opposition To Corner Government In Parliament On Manipur Issue

The opposition is preparing to corner the central government during the winter session. The winter session of Parliament began on Monday (25 November 2024). 

Five new bills will be introduced in this session which will run till 20 December, while 11 other bills including Waqf (Amendment) have been listed for discussion. 

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that major topics like bribery allegations against Adani Group, ongoing violence in Manipur, border dispute with China, pollution, social polarization and recent clashes in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh were discussed and the government will be cornered on these issues.

According to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, key issues discussed included the Adani Group 'bribery' controversy, ongoing violence in Manipur, border dispute with China, pollution, social polarisation and recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Kumari Selja, Shashi Tharoor, Pramod Tiwari, P Chidambaram and Gaurav Gogoi attended the meeting organised by Kharge.

Ramesh stressed the party's continued demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe bribery allegations against the Adani Group. Ramesh said that we raised key issues in Parliament today and will continue to do so. Another senior party leader Pramod Tiwari reiterated that issues like Manipur, Sambhal violence and the Adani 'bribery' controversy will dominate the discussion in Parliament.

The winter session of Parliament began today but was adjourned soon after opposition MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demanded a discussion on the Sambhal clashes over a mosque survey and allegations of bribery against the Adani Group
