Pakistan Iran Ties: We Are Going To Continue To Disrupt, Warns US

A US official said on Tuesday that anyone wishing to do business with Iran should also be aware of the risk of US sanctions. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said this in response to a question regarding the visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan.

He said, 'I want to say broadly that we advise anyone wishing to do business with Iran to be aware of the potential risks of sanctions. The Pakistan government would know better about its foreign policy".

During the visit of Iranian President, Pakistan and Iran signed eight MoUs and both the countries also agreed to increase bilateral trade to US$10 billion.

Earlier this week, the US imposed sanctions on those helping Pakistan in its ballistic missile program, which also includes three Chinese companies.

Patel said, 'Sanctions were imposed because these are the institutions that were promoting the production and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. These are companies linked to the People's Republic of China in Belarus and we have seen how they provided components and other materials necessary for Pakistan's ballistic missile programme.

Let us tell you that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi completed his three-day first visit to Pakistan on Wednesday. During this, he had 'fruitful talks' with the country's top leadership including the Army Chief to combat terrorism and strengthen bilateral trade relations.

This was the first visit of a head of state to Pakistan after the February 8 general elections. Both sides signed eight MoUs, pledging to increase trade to US$10 billion in the coming years.
