Panchayat Elections By First WeeK Of July: SEC, Tripura

The three-tier panchayat elections will be held in Tripura in the last week of July or the first week of August. State Election Commissioner Sharadindu Chowdhury informed this  in a press conference on Monday. He said that the tenure of the panchayat body which is currently functioning will expire in the first week of August.

'Initiatives have been taken by the Election Commission to conduct the three-tier panchayat elections on time. The number of police stations has already been finalized for the three-tier panchayat elections. There are 2 thousand 650 polling stations in 35 blocks. Draft voter list already announced. Claims and objections on this draft voter list are currently in progress. This work will continue till June 24' he said.

"After the final voter list is ready on June 24, the date of the election will be finalized in consultation with the state government. The Election Commission will propose to organize the elections in the last week of July or the first week of August" said State Election Commissioner.

"According to the draft voter list, there are 12 lakh 95 thousand 86 voters. In this election, there are 6 thousand 370 seats in 35 blocks in Gram Panchayat, 423 seats in 35 Panchayat Samiti, and 116 seats in 8 Zilla Parishads" he added.
