Panchayat Polls, Tripura: Left Front Candidates Attacked During Nomination Submission

Political tension continues centering panchayat elections in Tripura. Candidates of the opposition Left Front attacked by the miscreants backed by the ruling party while submitting their nomination papers in broad day light. The incident took place in Bilonia under South Tripura District.

Moreover bricks were pelted on them in front of the police and many leaders and activists including State Secretariat member and former MLA Sudhan Das has been injured. Later CPIM blocked the road in protest.

Sudhan Das, the member of the CPIM Tripura State Secretariat Committee and former MLA, alleged that "all preparations were made to submit nomination papers for Panchayat Samiti and various Panchayats in Rajnagar block under Bilonia sub-division from Friday morning. But hundreds of miscreants of the ruling BJP had gathered at the Rajnagar school. In front of the police, they organized attacks on leftist leaders and activists. Several leaders and workers are injured". 

On this day, he also alleged that the BJP government has spread corruption in the panchayats of the state. Today BJP is not able to field candidates in elections. Because they are isolated. 

However BJP till now didn't reacts on this matter. Notable that 

Panchayat elections in Tripura state have been announced today. Panchayat elections will be held on August 8 and the counting day has been fixed on August 12.

The last date for submission of nomination papers has been fixed on July 18. Scrutiny of nomination papers is fixed on 19th July and withdrawal of nomination papers is fixed on 22nd July.

The Election Commission said that all the processes of the election should be completed by August 17. There are 606 Gram Panchayats, 35 Panchayat Samiti, 8 Zilla Parishads in Tripura in Panchayat Elections. The total number of voters in Tripura  is 1294153. 

There are 635697 female voters, 658445 male voters. Total polling centers in the state will be 2650. A total of 18 companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed in Tripura state panchayat elections. They will be accompanied by TSR and Tripura Police. 

CRPFs will be deployed outside the polling centers on election day to ensure that there is no breakdown in law and order.
