"Three-tier panchayat is one of the cornerstones of development of a country or state. Panchayat plays an important role in implementing any scheme or plan of Central Government or State Government. Panchayats are our main base. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always emphasized on Panchayat system."
Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said this at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad at Agartala Town Hall on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Saha said, I recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. There I made a PowerPoint presentation on the government web portal, which was based on the Panchayat system. Every Thursday panchayat members and officials visit different areas to learn about various problems and every Monday a meeting is organized to upload online to solve these problems within a specified time. Panchayat is very important to us and we are appreciated for this arrangement. At present we have 116 Zilla Parishads, 423 Panchayat Samitis and 6,370 Gram Panchayats. People have high expectations on the three-tier panchayat system. Our government has always emphasized on transparency. This is reflected in the functioning of the three-tier panchayats.
The Chief Minister urged all the members to work to ensure transparent administration in the state. He said that Panchayats have an important role in promoting 'Vocal for Local' for the development of all villages. Development should be given top priority. In 2018 West Tripura Zilla Parishad Deendayal Upadhyay Panchayat received about Rs. Apart from this, Kathalia Panchayat Samiti received Tk 25 lakh, Vishalgarh Panchayat Samiti Tk 25 lakh and Mohanbhog Gram Panchayat received Tk 8 lakh in 2020. Also in 2022 we got Deendayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Bikash Award. We are in a strong position at the national level in operating the three-tier panchayat system.
