Paris Olympics 2024: Know The Young Team India

This time the enthusiasm of young India will be seen in Paris Olympics. In the 117-member Indian team, 70 players are going to participate in Olympics for the first time. 

These include 29 female players. Boxer Nikhat Zareen, wrestler Antim Panghal, Ritika, athlete Jyoti Yaraji, shooter Sift Kaur Samra, Ramita, Riddham Sangwan are such daughters who have the power to win Olympic medals for the country while playing for the first time.

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, javelin thrower Kishore Jena, archer B Dheeraj, boxer Nishant Dev, shooter Sarabjot Singh, Sandeep Singh, Arjun Babuta, Arjun Cheema, Anish also have the power to do something while playing in Olympics for the first time.

There are 47 players in the 117-member team who have experience of playing one or more Olympics. These include five medal winners including the men's hockey team. 

India won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the Tokyo Olympics. Apart from gold-winning javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, silver-winning weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, bronze-winning boxer Lovlina, shuttler PV Sindhu, the men's hockey team will once again compete for the medal.

There is no dearth of experience in the Indian team. Table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal is going to play his fifth Olympics. He will also be the flag bearer of the Indian team in the opening ceremony. This will be the fourth Olympics for archer Tarundeep Roy, Deepika Kumari, hockey player PR Sreejesh and Manpreet Singh.

The oldest player in the Indian team will be 44-year-old Rohan Bopanna, while the youngest player will be 14-year-old swimmer Dinidhi Desinghu. Dinidhi is the second youngest player to play in the Olympics. Earlier, swimmer Aarti Saha had participated in the 1952 Olympics at the age of 11. 

There are three players in the team, Bopanna, Sharath Kamal (42) and Tarundeep Roy (40), who are above 40 years of age. Trap shooter Prithviraj Tondaiman (37), hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh (36), golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar (36), athlete MR Poovamma (34), shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa (34), shuttler HS Prannoy (32) are the other oldest players.

16 players have been selected in the main hockey team for Paris and three as reserves. Among these, 12 players are those who won bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics. India will start its campaign with a match against New Zealand on 27 July. 

After this, the team will face Argentina on 29 July. After this, India will face Ireland the next day and defending champion Belgium on August 1. India has to play against Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Australia on August 2
