Paris Olympics Day 1: China Wins First Gold. India Shines In Air Pistol, Hockey

Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has reached the final of the 10m air pistol event at the Paris Olympics.
She will aim for a medal in the final of this event on Sunday, July 28 from 3:30 pm.
Manu scored 580 out of 600 points in the qualification event and finished third among 45 shooters. The other Indian shooter in this event, Ridhm Sangwan, could not reach the finals. Sangwan finished 15th with 573 points. The top-8 shooters have qualified for the finals.
Earlier, China won the first gold of Paris Olympics-2024. The Chinese team became champion in the 10 meter rifle mixed event of shooting.
The Republic of Korea stood second and Kazakhstan third. The Kazak team won the first medal of these games.
In the same event, Indian pairs finished sixth and 12th. India's Team-2 Ramita (314.5) and Arjun (314.2) finished sixth with a total of 628.7 points, while Team-1 pair of Elavenil (312.6) and Sandeep (313.7) finished 12th with a total of 626.3 points.
In the 10m air pistol men's event, Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema could not qualify for the finals. Sarabjot finished 9th and Arjun finished 18th.
Day 1 highlights
India missed the medal round in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.
Kazakhstan won the first medal of Paris Olympics 2024. Kazakhstan defeated Germany 17-5 to win the bronze medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. China won the first gold medal of the Games by winning this event.
In shooting, Sarabjot and Arjun were eliminated from the 10m Men's Air Pistol.
Manu Bhaker reached the final of the 10m women's air pistol event.
In women's singles, world number-1 tennis star Iga Swiatek defeated Romania's I Begu 6-2 in 43 minutes in the first round.
Lakshya Sen won his first match in badminton singles.
Harmeet Desai reaches round of 64 in table tennis.
In badminton men's doubles, Satwik-Chirag won their first match against hosts France.
