Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony: PV Sindhu, Sharat Kamal To Be India's Flag Bearers

Badminton star PV Sindhu and table tennis star Sharath Kamal have been named flag bearers at the Paris Olympics 2024 for India. Also, 2012 bronze medallist shooter Gagan Narang has been named chef-de-mission in place of Mary Kom for the upcoming event in Paris.

Indian Olympic Association President Dr. P.T. Usha said on Monday that 41-year-old Gagan Narang has been promoted from Deputy Chef-de-Mission to the post of Chief 

Chef-de-Mission. Some time ago, Mary Kom had voluntarily resigned from the post of Chef-de-Mission. She further said that after Mary's resignation, we were all looking for an Olympic medalist to lead India and there could be no better replacement than Gagan.

PT Usha said that I feel proud that PV Sindhu is the only player to win 2 medals for India in the Olympics. Sindhu will be the flag bearer for India in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, along with table tennis star Sharath Kamal. PV Sindhu won silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2021.

Regarding the performance in the Olympics, Usha said that I am confident that our players are fully prepared for Paris 2024. They will perform brilliantly.

Indian shooter Gagan Narang has played Olympics 4 times. He won the bronze medal in the 10 meter air rifle event of the 2012 London Olympics.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced a 28-member Indian athletics team for the Paris Olympics starting on July 26. Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will lead the Indian team.

Along with Neeraj Chopra, Kishore Jena will also be seen throwing javelin this time. Annu Rani, who won the gold medal in women's javelin throw in the Asian Games last year, will also represent India in javelin throw in Paris. The 28-member athletics team for the Paris Olympics includes 17 male and 11 female athletes.

India's men's hockey team has left to participate in Paris Olympics 2024. However, they will complete a 3-day mental strength session at Mike Horn's base in Switzerland, then the team will go to the Netherlands for warm-up games and after that they will move to Paris, France for Paris Olympics 2024.
