PM Modi Arrives in Ethiopia on First-Ever State Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ethiopia on a two-day state visit after completing his tour of Jordan. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali formally welcomed him at the National Palace in Addis Ababa, where the two leaders held bilateral talks.
Expressing his happiness at visiting Ethiopia for the first time, Prime Minister Modi said he felt a deep sense of belonging upon his arrival. During the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised Modi’s leadership vision, noting that India’s partnerships with Africa are always guided by the continent’s specific needs.
Abiy Ahmed emphasized the need for a renewed and stronger partnership between India and Ethiopia, based on mutual respect, equality, and cooperation, to ensure shared progress for both nations.
Earlier, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed personally received PM Modi at Addis Ababa Airport. The leaders shared an informal interaction, during which Modi was offered a traditional Ethiopian cup of coffee. In a gesture of warmth and friendship, Abiy Ahmed personally drove Modi to his hotel, showing him the Science Museum and Friendship Park en route.
Upon reaching the hotel, Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora. He interacted with NRIs, and a young girl performed a cultural dance in his honor.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s first-ever visit to Ethiopia.
