Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tokyo on Friday for a two-day visit during which he will hold summit talks with his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, to strengthen the India-Japan partnership.
“PM Narendra Modi has landed in Tokyo, Japan. PM will be holding wide-ranging discussions with PM Shigeru Ishiba later in the evening to advance the India-Japan partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on X.
Before leaving New Delhi, Mr. Modi said the visit would provide an opportunity to deepen civilisational bonds and cultural ties. He added that the talks would focus on shaping “the next phase of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” with emphasis on economic and investment cooperation and collaboration in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
After his Japan visit concludes on August 30, Mr. Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on August 31 and September 1.
