PM Modi Calls CMs Meet Amid Iran War Concerns

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to convene a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers on March 27 to deliberate on the emerging geopolitical situation stemming from the Iran conflict. Chief Ministers from states currently heading into elections will not be part of the discussion.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on March 24, Modi cautioned that a prolonged escalation involving Iran could trigger significant global ramifications. He observed that the period ahead may pose challenges akin to those experienced during the COVID-19 crisis, emphasizing the imperative for seamless coordination between the Union and state governments.

Amid rising public concern, the Centre on Thursday firmly rejected reports suggesting a looming shortage of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas asserted that the country currently possesses adequate fuel reserves to sustain demand for nearly 60 days, irrespective of fluctuations in the global energy landscape.

The ministry also dismissed claims circulating on social media as baseless and misleading, alleging that such narratives are designed to provoke panic buying and destabilize the market. It warned of stringent action against those responsible for disseminating false information.
